Player-coach Sylvain Cloutier has heaped praise on Andrew McKinney following a string of impressive performances for Excel Hull Stingrays.
The Canadian-born 20-year-old has posted three goals and four assists, as well as 72 penalty minutes, in 29 games since joining from Telford Tigers of the English Premier League in November.
McKinney scored for the second time in four games in last Friday’s 8-2 home defeat by Coventry Blaze in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League – being named man of the match in the process.
Cloutier said: “Andy has been our best British player. He has really stepped it up and I have been really impressed with him.
“He plays hard every night, he blocks shots, he has chipped in with a goal or two and he has had a couple of fights.
“He was our best player against Coventry last Friday and deserved his goal and deserved his man of the match.
“In Sheffield on Sunday he tried to get us going by having a fight. He is prepared to do anything to help the team and you want guys like that with you.
“He is hungry to do well, he cares about the team and he wants to play for the jersey. It is great to see. Andy has done a great job for us.”
Stingrays take on Dundee Stars at Hull Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Sunday February 12 (6pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Hull Arena Box Office on 01482 325252.
