Dan Scott believes the pressure on Excel Hull Stingrays has eased following their four-point weekend over Dundee Stars.
The wins moved Stingrays 10 points clear of ninth-placed Stars in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League with 11 games left, although the Scottish side do have one match in hand which they play tonight against Sheffield Steelers.
Stingrays next head to leaders Belfast Giants on Friday before a home clash with Cardiff Devils on Sunday.
Scott, 19, said: “We have taken a little bit of pressure of us but we still have to go out and pick up points from the remaining games. We want seventh place.
“We can turn Belfast over and we have already turned Cardiff over in our barn so hopefully we can get another couple of points.
“When you look at the table we are going to finish seventh or eighth so we may have to play Belfast in the play-offs so we have to get used to playing with these teams. If we can go up to Belfast and beat them it will send a message to them.”
Scott scored his first Elite League goal in Sunday’s 3-2 victory after penalty shots over Stars at Hull Arena.
He added: “Dmitry [Rodin] just passed it to me in the slot and I was all alone. I just shot it and it went in – I was pretty happy!
“I thought I had scored again. The goal light went on and that would have made it 2-2. I thought it was in – I would - but I don’t think it actually was!
“It was a massive weekend and the room was buzzing afterwards. It was what we needed. It puts us in a strong position for seventh place, which is what we want.”
Stingrays take on Cardiff Devils at Hull Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Sunday February 19 (6pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Hull Arena Box Office on 01482 325252.
