Stingrays seek Giant win

Thursday 00 16, 2012

Assistant coach Bobby McEwan says Excel Hull Stingrays will head to Rapid Solicitors Elite League leaders Belfast Giants tomorrow night looking to cause an upset.

Stingrays travel to Northern Ireland in confident mood after posting a four-point weekend over Dundee Stars which moved them 10 points clear of ninth place in the race for a play-off place.

The four meetings so far this season have all gone Belfast’s way, with three of them being close affairs.

McEwan said: “We have never feared the big teams. We know what we have to do to give ourselves a chance.

“For some unknown reason we seem to raise our game against the top teams and a few of the top teams are worried about us because they do not know which Hull team is going to turn up.

“The four points we got last weekend can let us relax a little bit. It gave us a bit of a cushion.

“Belfast are looking for the title and they want the two points and they could get into a game they don’t want to play in.”

Stingrays will be without leading goalscorer Jereme Tendler as well as British forward Matty Davies (concussion).

Stingrays take on Cardiff Devils at Hull Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Sunday February 19 (6pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Hull Arena Box Office on 01482 325252.
