Tendler suspended after positive drugs test

Tuesday 00 14, 2012

Hull Stingrays Canadian forward, Jereme Tendler is currently suspended from playing for the club after testing positive for a specified substance.  The test was carried out in Coventry after the Stingrays 5-2 loss to the Coventry Blaze on Sunday 15th January.

The club’s leading scorer was informed of the test result on Friday February 3rd ahead of the club’s home fixture, also against the Blaze and was immediately suspended from playing for the Stingrays by the UK Anti Doping Agency under the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) standard guidelines.  He has so far missed the last four Stingrays games.  WADA defines a specified substance as one that is “more susceptible to a credible, non-doping explanation”.  The punishment for this offence ranges from a warning to a two year suspension.

There is now a standard process to be followed before a decision is reached as to whether any sanctions will be taken against Tendler.  The player will remain provisionally suspended pending the outcome of the remainder of the process.  He is therefore prohibited from playing for the club until that is concluded.

Tendler has requested a personal hearing with the UK Anti Doping Agency which is expected to take place soon.

The club and Tendler have been advised not to make further comment on the situation until the process has been completed so as not to prejudice his case in any way.
